It’s normal enough for kids to feel fear before a dental visit. However, we at Newpark Mall Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics want patients to see us in a better light. Our dentists and staff thus make use of sedation dentistry. Its three unique methods ease a child's worries and promote a relaxed and calm mood instead. In doing so, it leads to positive dental experiences for our young patients. We hope to hear from you soon about a potential visit with our sedation dentist for kids in Newark.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

As nitrous oxide is our mildest sedative, it’s best for kids with low levels of dental anxiety. This “laughing gas” is inhaled through a nose mask and works quickly. It’ll have your young one relaxed and mildly euphoric within a few minutes. Our dental team will then finish their treatment smoothly for a seamless visit. The sedation effects also won’t persist – nitrous oxide wears off when the mask is removed.

IV Sedation

Unlike nitrous oxide, IV sedation is a better choice for kids or teens with extreme dental fears. We usually administer the medicine via the hand or bend of the elbow. From there, it enters the bloodstream to help create an intense calming effect. Your child likely won’t remember much from the visit as a result. Furthermore, someone will need to watch them after their return home – the medicine’s effects linger before wearing off.

General Anesthesia

We strongly suggest general anesthesia when your child or teen can’t relax or need multiple dental services. Unlike the other options, it’ll make your child fall completely asleep. That means they’ll remain unaware of their surroundings during treatment. So, general anesthesia is a great choice if nitrous oxide and IV sedation prove unsuccessful for your young one.
